The station serves the Sacavém area but also the northern part of Parque das Nações. There are great plans for this place - its transformation into an important intermodal node of local and suburban scope -, but for now only a requalification and dignification of the railway space will be done.

It is the easternmost station in Lisbon and is already in the municipality of Loures, although it also serves the northern part of Parque das Nações. The plans for the Sacavém railway station are bigbut they will start slowly. It is intended to create there a real "intermodal node of local and suburban scope"with the station gaining prominence in a new surroundings with better public space, a reorganization of the road network, pedestrian accessibility "more efficient, safer and more comfortable"It will have a connection to the local cycling network and a junction with the LIOS Oriental, the light rail that will connect Sacavém to Santa Apolónia along the entire riverfront, with a detour through the Portela neighborhood.

For now, the Sacavém railway station is going to be re-qualified by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), which manages the equipment. The intervention, with an investment of 540 thousand euros, has as main objectives the "reorganization and expansion of the parking lot, as well as the general improvement of the station and surrounding area, through the development of a wide range of improvements"namely:
- the replacement of the lighting in the passenger building area;
- placing protections in the shelters of the passenger platforms;
- the installation of urban furniture on the platforms and in the parking lot;
- the replacement of existing signage;
- the increase of the parking lot capacity to 76 light vehicles;
- the construction of a stairway pedestrian access between the Line 4 platform and the CML public parking lot, located east of the station.

The contract begins this week, was awarded to the company "XIX - Construção, Projetos e Gestão, Lda. will last 210 days, i.e. seven months, so it should be completed in April/May 2023. The work, which is IP's responsibility, is designed by "Prospectiva - Projectos, Serviços e Estudos, S.A.", and supervised by "Consulgal - Consultores de Engenharia e Gestão, S.A.".

The Sacavém railway station has an annual average of about 280 thousand passengersIt is located in an urban area, serving the municipalities of Loures and Lisbon. According to IP, a "The intervention will respond to new criteria of accessibility, functionality, comfort and safety, increasingly valued in railroad spaces, also taking as a reference the next World Youth Day 2023The Sacavém station is expected to become an important interface in the mobility of people going to the event"..
Anyone who currently visits the Sacavém station easily realizes the missed opportunity. They find an abandoned parking lot, an unused open space, poor pedestrian connections from Lisbon, closed ticket booths and, in general, a station that could better serve the population of Sacavém and the north of Parque das Nações but that is abandoned by IP, CP and local authorities.
