Bugs in the GIRA application have left users desperate

The GIRA app has had several errors in recent days, from indicating an inactive pass (when it is active) to not loading the map with the stations. The solution is simple: close the app and open it again, and repeat this process as many times as necessary until everything works as it should.

Over the last two weeks, GIRA's app has shown several glitches, leaving users desperate when they try to unlock bikes at stations. The bugs There are several problems, from the pass being inactive (when it is active) to the map not loading with the stations. EMEL said it was aware of the problems, but the resolution has been slow to reach the cell phones of users of the bike-sharing service.

Anyone who has been using GIRA for a long time and does so frequently knows that the application is not the most reliable. Time and time again, it asks for login or it locks up for no apparent reason, and you just have to close it and open it again. But the situations that have occurred in recent days have complicated the full use of the service, leaving GIRA subscribers confused. The bugs that have occurred are as follows:

  • a request to "complete registration" appears when you start the application;
  • the map of stations doesn't load when you open the application;
  • by clicking on a station and clicking on "select bikes", a "no records" indication appears (i.e. an empty list) even though there are several bikes available at that station;
  • by selecting a station, the application asks to join a pass, even though the user already has an active pass (which is not recognized).

The solution is simple: close the app and open it again, and repeat this process as many times as necessary until everything works as it should (you may have to do this several times in succession). There's no point in calling customer service, taking up the line that might be needed for really important problems, such as breakdowns. And, if you're sure you have an active pass, don't sign up again - it could be a bug. If you're in any doubt as to whether your subscription is still active, close and reopen the application (once or several times) until the request to activate the pass disappears; if it doesn't disappear after a few attempts, your subscription has expired.

Another anomaly that has been observed in the app relates to unknown errors when unlocking a bike. In this case, the solution is to insist, sliding to unlock again until the system accepts this process.

In a message recently posted on the app's home screen, EMEL, which manages Lisbon's shared bicycles, warned: "GIRA is experiencing system instabilities. We are working to normalize services as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused." So, if you're using GIRA, you already know: close and return to the app until everything works. And keep an eye out for future updates in the App Store or Google Play Store.

EMEL has struggled to provide a reliable app, partly because it is developed by a third-party company, which creates difficulties in correcting these situations. However, the Lisbon mobility company is working on developing a new app of its own, which will include not only GIRA but also ePark.
