Carris reviews connections between Portela and the center of Lisbon

Carris has made adjustments to three routes - 722, 731 and 783 - to improve accessibility between Portela and Lisbon city center.

Although located in the municipality of Loures, Portela maintains a strong connection with Lisbon. A significant proportion of the residents of this neighborhood commute to the capital on a daily basis, which is why Carris introduced the Portela bus this Tuesday, April 16, adjustments to the routes of some routes serving Portela, namely: 722, 731 and 783. There are changes to stops, the extension of the 722 from Praça de Londres to Restauradores, and the removal of a bypass.

The biggest novelty is on route 722, which has been extended from Praça de Londres, in Areeiro, to Restauradores, with a route that runs along the city's central axis. In other words: from Praça de Londres, the route turns towards Arco do Cego, in the direction of Saldanha, where it takes Avenida da República, following Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade, to Restauradores.

With this extension, the population of Portela gains a new direct connection to one of the capital's business and service centers, but also to the downtown area; at the same time, on Lisbon's Central Axis, there is a reinforcement of more than 30 new timetables.

In Portela, there are also changes to route 722, which no longer has a terminus at Rua dos Escritores and now stops at Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a little further on. At Rua dos Escritores, the 731 line was extended from Moscavide to Portela. With this change to the 731, Carris ensures a connection between the Portela neighborhood and Campo Grande, via Avenida do Brasil. In addition to Alvalade, the 731 also passes through Olivais and Sete Rios, where it has a terminus and which is also an important centrality in the city of Lisbon.

Finally, Carris removed the 783 route variant, which, in some timetables, connected Amoreiras to Portela, instead of just Prior Velho. With the elimination of the Portela bypass, the 783 now runs only between Amoreiras and Pior Velho, keeping the route through Eixo Central, Campo Grande and Avenida do Brasil. On weekends and public holidays, the 783 will continue to be shortened to Marquês de Pombal (instead of going to Amoreiras) and, on weekdays and Saturdays, on the first trips (before the Metro opens), this route will continue to go to Terreiro do Paço.

The service of routes 728 and 210 (Rede da Madrugada), which also serve Portela, remains unchanged. There is also no news on the Carris Metropolitana lines that serve Portela. For more details on what's changing at Portela, you can consult the Carris website e also the independent portal Buses from Lisbonwhere additional information is provided.
