Navigator points relocated to facilitate service and repair

The Setúbal and Almada Navigator Points have changed location. They are now located at the Setúbal Transport Interface and at the Costa da Caparica Navigator Space, respectively.

Two of the 18 Navigator Pointsinstalled at the end of last year all over the AML, have a new location for facilitate assistance and repair in case of need. They are Setubal and Almadawhich are now located within the Metropolitan Railway Navigator Spaces in these two municipalities.

The Navigator Points are automatic machines where it is possible to print a Navegante card on the spot and immediately load it with the monthly pass or with cash from zapping. In these machines, it is possible to make the "Navegante" card in a few minutes for 12 € with the data and photo of the Citizen's Card. As of November 2021, there are 18 Navegante points, one for each municipality in AML, with the exception of Lisbon, which has two additional points in the inner atrium of the Alameda Metro station.

O Setúbal's Ponto Navegante moved from the Alegro shopping center to the Espaço Navegante located at the new Transportation Interface of the city, just outside the train station. As for the Almada's Ponto Navegante moved from the Cacilhas river terminal to Espaço Navegante located at Costa da Caparica (Rua Ercília Costa, 6; 2825-322 Almada). These two Navegante Points are available during the respective Navegante Spaces' opening hours, that is, between 8am and 9pm.

Contacted by Lisboa Para Pessoas, the Lisbon Metropolitan Transports (TML) indicates that these machines "need very frequent human intervention" to change ink cartridges, replenish paper rolls and cards, or to "act at the printer level when any card jams". Now, with the Navigator Points being out of the way for TML (in a mall or a river terminal), "and even with a dedicated team, we are not always able to respond at the time the occurrences are registered"explains the company responsible for this equipment.

However, the Navegante Spaces in Setúbal and Almada where the Navegante Points of these municipalities are now located are managed by TML itself through the Carris Metropolitana brand, which means that TML can "easily manage equipment with close local support". "In parallel, it also allows us to improve the performance of the Navegante Spaces"TML explains, since, "in more affluent stores"people can use vending machines as an alternative to the attended ticket booths.

In the case of Almada, there was one more factor for the relocation of the Ponto Navegante of the river terminal. According to TML, the "the exposure to moisture peculiar to the site was not suitable for that equipment". "For now, no further location changes are planned just yet."
